The higher upfront cost is offset by near-zero maintenance over a 25–30 year lifespan. 📋 Does Decking Need Planning Permission?

Ground-level decking — where the surface is less than 30cm above the natural ground level — is generally permitted development and doesn't need planning permission. Raised decking that brings the platform above 30cm typically requires a permitted development compliance check, and in some cases planning permission if it would overlook neighbouring properties or sits close to boundaries.

As with all landscaping projects, listed properties and conservation areas may have additional restrictions.
